Springbank Center Stage Dancers

Miss Devon – Artistic Director, Studio Owner since 2008

Background: Miss Devon has been teaching at Center Stage for 9 years and prior to, was one of their dancers. She began Figure Skating at age 5 and became intensely competitive. To increase her strength and pose, she began taking ballet and jazz, which quickly became a new passion for her. Soon after, she started student teaching and expanding her knowledge in various disciplines of dance, attending multiple studios, classes, and work-shops around the city. Miss Devon danced professionally for the Michael Bernard Fitzergerald production for two years, which toured throughout Southern Alberta. She has also worked closely with the Production Managers at So You Think You Can Dance Canada auditions in 2008, and choreographed for various fundraisers and events, including "ONE Voice of World Dance" and the Olympic Torch Relay 2010. Miss Devon travels North American to take dance and teacher's workshops and is currently achieving her Canadian Dance Teacher's Certification and ADAPT Certification. Miss Devon hopes to continue to expand her knowledge and experiences in dance to pass down to her students.

Miss Devon completed her Bachelor of Applied Justice Studies through Mount Royal College where she spent time working with the Calgary Police Service in the Identification Section, Fingerprinting, and Crime Scene Investigation. Although interested in Forensics, her true passion is teaching dance, choreographing, and managing Center Stage. Miss Devon is very passionate about the studio and eager for the many years to come!

Favourite thing to do on a rainy day: Curl up with Frankie and watch dance videos!

 

Interesting Fact: I can clap really loud with my feet!

Miss Amanda (Mandy) - Ballet, Contemporary, Tap, Lyrical Instructor, Competition Choreographer

Background: Miss Mandy has trained extensively in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary and Pointe and has achieved high scores in exams through Brian Foley jazz/tap and RAD ballet syllabuses. She has travelled around the world attending classes and workshops from well-known choreographers. She has been to New York, Mexico, San Diego, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Vancouver, performing and growing as a dancer and teacher. Miss Mandy was a member of Vivo for 3 years, a company that traveled as well as put on performances around Calgary. She is a certified Apprentice Member of Canadian Dance Standards Teacher Certification program and working towards becoming a Principal Member.

 

Miss Mandy has a diploma in Child and Youth Care Counselling and working towards her Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Calgary. Miss Mandy is eager to take on the Ballet Program and Lyrical at Center Stage this year and continue teaching Contemporary and Tap.

 

We are so looking forward to having Miss Mandy back this season and she is looking forward to getting to know many new students!

 

Favourite thing to do on a rainy day: Going shopping with her little brother and sister; and of course, watching TV episodes with Miss Erin! :)

 

Interesting Fact: Part of my face is numb!

Miss Erin – Lyrical Instructor, Competition Choreographer

Background: Born and raised in Calgary and moved to Stony Plain at 15 for 5 years. Began dancing at age 11 and has trained in Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, and Ballet (both RAD and Vaganova). Travelled throughout Alberta competing, taking classses, workshops, and attending conventions. Miss Erin has also won awards for her choreography at various festivals. She will be taking additional classes this year in BC and New York. Miss Erin is working on completing her Canadian Dance Standards Certificate and hopes to travel the world, pursuing new styles of dance. Miss Erin has a passion to not only take new classes but for learning the culture that roots various genres.

 

This is Miss Erin's fourth season at Center Stage and we are excited to have her creativity and warm personality in the studio!!

 

Favourite thing to do on a rainy day: Go to the international arrivals at the airport with a Starbucks in hand and my sister. The happy reunions make me feel better about society.

 

Interesting Fact: When I was young, I convinced myself that being a duck would be my career choice because they get to swim as well as fly; and that really is the best of both worlds!

 

Positive Message: "Dance for yourself because you love it. A great dancer is not great because of their technique but because their passion radiates through their movement"


 

Miss Mallory - Jazz, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Combo Class Instructor, Competition Choreographer

Background: Miss Mallory was born and raised in Springbank, attending all these Schools. She is currently a student at the University of Calgary working towards a bachelor of science in Anthropology and aspires to become an elementary school teacher. Miss Mallory has been dancing since she was 3 years old and has trained at various studios around Calgary and became a student at Springbank Center Stage in 2007. She also volunteered as a student teacher for Center Stage before being offered a full-time teaching position in 2009! Miss Mallory has participated in RAD and ADAPT technique exams, participated in numerous competitions, and attended an assortment of festivals and workshops across Calgary for the last 10 years.

 

Favourite thing to do on a rainy day: curl up with a blanket and my kitten and watch a classic movie like Gone With the Wind or Breakfast at Tiffany's!

 

Positive Message: "Always believe in yourself because your opinion of yourself is the only one that should matter"

 


 

Miss Monika - Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Ballet Instructor, Competition Choreographer

Background: Miss Monika was born and raised in Springbank, Calgary. She began doing ballet at age 3 and has to admit that it was not her favourite at first! She started with Center Stage when it first opened and never left. Taking "Ballet for Figure Skaters" she soon began to have a true passion for ballet. Miss Monika is also trained in Jazz, Lyrical, Tap, Pointe, and Hip Hop. She participated in many years of competition, including "Little Miss Outrider," and was a Student Teacher before becoming part of the faculty at Center Stage. Miss Monika attend Conventions to further her training and involvement in dance and will be her third her at Center Stage.

 

Miss Monika is looking forward to watching herself, and her students, grow as individuals and dancers at Center Stage. We are very excited to welcome Miss Monika back!

 

Favourite thing to do on a rainy day: Obviously dancing around my living room! ...But also reading, watching TV or movies, and cooking

Interesting Fact: I have a pet hermit crab named Sebastian; Did you know, hermit crabs can live for over 30 years!?!

Miss Jessalyn - Contemporary Instructor, Competition Choreographer

Background: Miss Jessalyn is a dancer, choreographer and teacher, creating and presenting work in both Calgary and Edmonton. She loves to teach a variety of dance styles and has extensive training in ballet, contemporary, jazz, lyrical, musical theatre and tap. She recently graduated from the University of Calgary’s contemporary dance program in 2010 with a BA in dance with distinction. Her contemporary choreography has been invited to perform in many regional professional arts festivals as well as the University of Calgary’s Dance Montage and Dance@Noon. She has performed in University showcases and professional festivals in Alberta. Miss Jessalyn was member of W&M Physical Theatre’s Pro Division and SURGE Company. This past year, she was a dancer in the contemporary dance company Kloetzel&Co and was featured as “Alice” in the evening length work Alice Unraveled(2011.) She was recently accepted into Decidedly Jazz Dancework’s Professional Training Program, and will be attending this fall. Before entering the professional world, Miss Jessalyn received her Junior Cecchetti Teachers Certificate, completed the ISTD Intermediate ballet exam, and competed for many years in dance competitions around Alberta and Saskatchewan. Miss Jessalyn loves to share her passion for dance with students of all ages and abilities and believes that everyone can dance

 

This is Miss Jessalyn's first year at Center Stage and we are very excited to have her join our team and contribute with her creativity and originality.

 

Favourite thing to do on a rainy day: Pilates and stretching in front of the TV playing dance movies, Harry Potter, or anything on TLC! Also choreographing with my friends and roommate in my living room.

 

Interesting Fact: My dog is smaller than both of my cats!
